Former Husker gives advice to local athletes

LAUREL — The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Athletic Banquet was held April 16.

The evening was kicked off with a catered meal by Knuckleheadz .

Guest speaker Allie Mailloux then addressed the crowd.

Mailloux is a four-year member of the Nebraska women’s basketball team and played one year on the NU volleyball team.

She now resides in Pender with her husband and coaches volleyball and men’s basketball for Pender High School.

Mailloux’s speech contained three key points: Always work your hardest on and especially off the court, you never know who is watching, and you are always going to be a part of a team, be a good teammate, even as an adult, and school classes are important, you can be the greatest player on the court but you have to apply yourself in everything you do.

Special recognition was given to Justin Roberts, Dustin Thompson, and Justin Eriksen for being the voice of the Bears for their commentating throughout the year on the Striv broadcasts.

Last, the coaches had a chance to share a recap of their season and hand out their achievement awards for their teams.

During the evening, the LCC Booster Club held a silent auction for the team banners that were displayed in the gym over the year. Senior athletes also received their senior gifts.

The night was a huge success hosted and organized by the senior moms.
