Five Blaze wrestlers earn medals at Wayne
Wayne — The Quad County Northeast Blaze earned five medals and brought home one champion from Saturday’s Wayne Invitational.
Kolby Casey led the charge for the Blaze matmen, winning all of his matches in round-robin action at 220 pounds to claim first-place honors.
Nolan Ohlrich was a finalist at 152 pounds, losing a hard-fought match to Diego Maganda of Schuyler to bring home runner-up honors.
Fischer Carson earned a third-place medal at 285 pounds, while Ajay Gubbels and Colby Wathor finished fourth at 182 and 195 pounds, respectively.
Quad County Northeast went 2-1 in a triangular at Winside, defeating Stanton (36-24) and Pender (42-30) while losing to the host Wildcats (42-30).
QCNE’s wrestlers are back in action Saturday, Jan. 2 with the Pierce Invitational.
