FCSH puts an end to Cardinal football season
RANDOLPH — There is a reason Falls City Sacred Heart has been one of the best D2 football teams this year.
A balanced offensive attack and solid line play.
The Randolph Cardinal football season ended at home Wednesday afternoon within the Irish dominated the line play to earn a 60-22 win in the second round of the playoffs.
Randolph found itself in a hole early, allowing 30 points in the first quarter.
The Irish found success on the ground and through the air early, with quarterback Drew Bippes leading the way.
After a one-yard touchdown run by Del Casteel to start the game, Bippes completed a 17-yard touchdown pass to Jamie Stice to make it 14-0 halfway through the first quarter.
A 2-yard touchdown run by Jake Hoy and a 33-yard score on the ground by Bippes made it 30-0 by the end of the opening quarter.
FCSH scored again less than a minute into the second quarter on an 11-yard touchdown pass from Bippes to Tyler Wilt. The two connected on the two point conversion to make it 38-0.
Randolph quarterback Carter Schnoor then got his team on the board with an 11-yard pass to Avery Bermel for a touchdown, but Bippes would bump the lead back to 38 points with another touchdown pass for a touchdown before halftime. This one was a 7-yard pass to Hoy.
A running clock was in effect for most of the second half, after FCSH scored again on a 5-yard run by Casteel.
Randolph would cut the lead to 40 on a 7-yard touchdown run by Justin Haselhorst, but the two point try would be no good to make the score 54-14.
Each team would score once in the fourth. The Irish had a 31-yard touchdown run by Jack Feigener, and the Cardinals had a one-yard score from Cadein Villwok with less than a minute left in the game.
Randolph finished the season with a record of 7-3. It is the fifth straight year that the Cardinals exited the state playoffs in the second round.
