Cross country squads district results

BLOOMFIELD — The Bloomfield-Wausa girls cross country squad defeated threetime defending state champion Ainsworth by a slim margin to gain the District crown Thursday and earn the privilege to compete at the state meet.

The girls were led by Christina Martinson who medaled in second place (20:42). Others were Darla Nelson in 4th (21:03), Carry Martinson 8th (21:20), Madie Ziegler 15th (22:16), and Ella McFarland 16th (22:24).

Bloomfield-Wausa 13, 2) Ainsworth 17, 3) North Central 23, 4) Burwell 54, 5) Summerland 59, 6) Boyd County 71, 7) Plainview 72, 8) Central Valley 74, 9) Niobrara/Verdigre 87, 10) Osmond 93. The boys gave a valiant effort but came up on the short end of the stick by a very narrow margin.

Sophomore Addison Smith medaled in second place (17:26) to punch his ticket for the state meet.

Other non-medalist were: Cade Wakeley 20th (18:49), Tyler Hanson 23rd (19:13), Hudson Barger 26th (19:25), and Cory Schumacher 30th (20:03).

The top 15 individuals and top three teams in each district qualify for the state meet in Kearney on Friday, Oct. 23 with the girls running at 12 noon and the boys following at 12:30 p.m. with the awards ceremony following at 1 p.m. at the Kearney Country Club.
