Casey leads Blaze at Pierce tourney; two others also medal

PIERCE — Getting back in the swing of things after the Holiday break, the Quad County Northeast Blaze came away with three medals Saturday at Pierce.

The 20-team tournament saw a lot of quality action, and the Blaze had some good performances, highlighted by Kolby Casey’s runner-up finish at 195 pounds.

Casey went 4-1 on the day and won all four matches by a pin.

He faced a state-ranked wrestler in the finals and was pinned late in the first period by Logan Booth of Logan View to finish with the runner-up medal.

The Blaze had two other wrestlers come home with sixth-place medals.

Tie Hollandsworth went 2-3 on the day at 145 pounds to finish in sixth place, while Colby Wathor earned a sixth-place medal with a 2-2 day at 170 pounds.

QCNE wrestles in a triangular at O’Neill St. Mary’s on Thursday and has a dual at Winnebago on Friday before taking part in Saturday’s Winside Invitational.
