Casey earns trip to State wrestling

UTICA — Kolby Casey is returning to State.

He earned the trip in convincing fashion defeating Crofton’s Ty Tramp with 1:40 pin in the thirdplace match.

The win gave the LCC junior his 100th career victory. He now holds a 38-8 record heading into State.

Casey’s only loss on the day came when he lost by pin to Koa McIntyre of Archbishop Bergan.

As a team the Quad County Northeast Blaze wrestling team earned a 14-place finish Saturday with 34 points on the day.

Battle Creek won the District title, while David City earned runner-up honors.

Ajay Gubbels was just a whisker away from qualifying for State he lost by pin to Ponca’s Aiden Cook in the heart-break round. Carson Fisher posted a 2-2 mark at the tourney. He finishes the 2021-22 campaign with a 31-11 record.
