Carson wins L&C gold
OAKLAND — Quad County NE wrestlers had a busy and productive week on the mats.
The team competed in the Lewis and Clark Conference meet in Winnebago on Thursday. On Saturday, the squad travelled to the Oakland-Craig Invitational.
The Blaze had several medalists at the L&C meet. Carter Olson put together a 1-2 record and earned a fourth-place medal in the 126-pound weight class.
At 132 pounds, Gabe Wortmann earned sixth place with a 2-3 record.
At 138, Daniel Puppe took fourth place with a 2-3 record.
Gavin Wortman had a 1-2 record at 145 and did not place on the day.
Andrew Sohler picked up one win on the day while competing in the 160-pound class.
The Blaze’ Ajay Gubbels finished the day with a 2-1 mark in the 170-pound weight class.
Devin Eisenhauer was 1-2 at 182 pounds for the Blaze.
Justin Backer finished with a 1-1 mark at 195 pounds.
Fischer Carson collected a pair of pins to win the heavyweight title.
The Blaze was led by Colby Casey at the Oakland meet on Saturday.
Casey posted a 2-1 record to improve to 29-5 on the year enroute to the bronze medal at the meet.
Ajay Gubbels ended the day with a 2-2 mark and the fourth place medal.
Also competing at Oakland were: Carte Olson, Gabe Wortman, Gavin Wortman, Andrew Sohler, Devin Eisenhauer and Justin Backer.
The team will compete at the Plainview Invitational on Saturday.
