Cardinals keep soaring along with another pair of wins

CROFTON — The Randolph Cardinal boys basketball team improved to 13-7 with a pair of wins last week.

The Cards rolled over Emerson-Hubbard 74-29, then topped Crofton 55-39 in action last week.

Randolph took control early against Crofton, rolling to a 16-10 first-quarter advantage, then building a 30-22 halftime lead.

The cards kept pounding away in the second half to earn a 25-17 scoring advantage and earn the 16-point win.

The Cards were led to the win by a trio of double-figure scorers.

Jamison Svehla led all scorers with 22 points. Keaton Backhaus and Carter Schnoor both hit for 13 points in the contest. Schnoor also dished out a game-high eight assists.

Backhaus led the team in rebounds with eight, while Schnoor led the defense by collecting a team-high four steals.

The Randolph offense was burning red hot when the Cards traveled to Emerson to take on the Pirates in Lewis and Clark action last week.

The Cards hit 69 percent of their field goal shots, including 53 percent from behind the arc enroute to a huge 74-29 win over the Emerson-Hubbard Pirates.

A trio of Randolph athletes hit for double figures in the contest, led by Carter Schnoor’s 20-point effort. He was followed by Keaton Backhaus, who knocked down 19 points, and Jamison Svehla, who hit for 15. Schnoor and Justin Haselhorst also dished out a team-high five assists.

The Cardinals will close out the regular season this week against Hartington-Newcastle.
