Blaze heat up with fourth-place finish
CREIGHTON — The Quad County Northeast wrestlers brought home six medals, including one champion, and finished fourth in Saturday’s Creighton Invitational.
Tie Hollandsworth led the medal haul with a championship effort at 152 pounds, posting a technical fall in the finals over Bode Wortman of Plainview at 152 pounds.
Trace Naeve and Kolby Casey both finished as runner-ups in their respective divisions. Naeve lost to a defending state champion in the finals at 170 pounds, while Casey lost both matches in a round-robin at 220 pounds.
Alex Heiman (132) and Fischer Carson (285) both earned third-place medals, while Colby Wathor took fourth at 195 pounds.
The Blaze kicked off the season with a triangular, losing to host Battle Creek (51-24) while defeating Cedar Catholic (52-12).
In the Battle Creek dual, Casey and Carson picked up pins and Battle Creek had two opens. Against the Trojans, winners included Hollandsworth, Sutton Ehlers (160), Carson, Carter Olson (126) and Heiman.
The Blaze will wrestle in the Stanton Invitational on Saturday.
