Blaze bring home Lewis and Clark runner-up trophy

OSMOND — The Quad County Northeast wrestlers came away with runner-up honors in Thursday’s Lewis & Clark Conference tournament at Osmond High School.

The Blaze finished a distant second to defending Class D state champion Plainview, but edged Winnebago by one point for the runner-up trophy, thanks to a season-high 10 medalists.

The Quad County team finished with a pair of runner-up medalists.

Colby Wathor and Fischer Carson both earned silver medal finishes at 170 and 285 pounds, respectively.

Wathor’s only loss came in the final round of round-robin competition against champion Alizae Mejia of Plainview, while Fischer went 3-1 with his lone loss coming to Winnebago champion Darion Earth.

Bronze medals were won by Tie Hollandsworth (145), Nolan Ohlrich (152), Levi Jackson (182) and Kolby Casey (195).

Ajay Gubbels (160) and Israhel Vance (182) both finished fourth, and Carter Olson (113) and Gabe Wortman (126) both finished fifth.

At Saturday’s Oakland-Craig Invitational, the Blaze finished with three medals, led by Hollandsworth’s third-place finish at 145 pounds. Ohlrich and Carson both finished in sixth place.
