Bears take boys title in home invitational

LAUREL — Laurel-Concord-Coleridge and the teams attending the 2022 edition of the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Invitational Track Meet back on April 19 found the weather less-than-accommodating but somewhat tolerable as eight teams from each the boys’ and girls’ divisions met in Laurel to run the meet.

The Bears made the most of their meet, outlasting Ponca 149-135 to win the team title while Tri County Northeast came away with the girls’ title 130-111 over Pender.

The Lady Bears ended up sixth with 30 points.

The Bears got 20 points from Shane Benson after he won the high jump and triple jump early.

Deagan and Danny Puppe provided their normal 20 points plus in the hurdles with Danny winning the 300’s and Deagan taking the 110-high hurdles winning them. Daniel also got second in the highs and Deagan earned sixth in the 300’s.

The Bear’s 400 relay team took gold as Daniel and Deagan Puppe along with Wilton Roberts and Markus Martin circled the track with the baton in 45.50 seconds to win that event by a full second.

The 1,600 quartet of Roberts, Martin, Lucas Rasmussen and Evan Haisch won with a time of 3:39.80 and the 3,200 relay team placed third to earn Laurel-Concord-Coleridge 26 points in the three relay events.

Roberts went around the track solo in the open 400 and broke the tape first for another 10 points and another highlight was Aaron Blooms silver medal in the discus.

Haisch took third in the 200, Landen Leonard was third in the 800 and Dillon Olson was third in the 3,200.

The Lady Bears managed the 30 points in the meet and were paced by Berniece McCorkindale who won the shot put with a best of 36-feet-5-inches.

The Bears and Lady Bears will return to the track Saturday, April 30 when they head to Winnebago for the Lewis & Clark Conference Track and Field Meet.
