Bears qualify five athletes for State
PONCA — The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge track teams will both be represented at this week’s State Track meet after qualifying in Thursday’s C-4 district meet.
Deagan Puppe earned a pair of tickets to state, winning the 100-meter hurdles and taking runner-up in the 300-meter hurdles. Brother Dan Puppe also qualified in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing second as the two brothers ran side-by-side in the finals.
On the girls side, Berniece McCorkindale and Erica Wolfgram both earned trips to state. McCorkindale claimed runner-up honors in the shot put with a best throw of 34 feet, 3 inches, while Wolfgram tied for second in the high jump with a best mark of 4-10.
LCC earned a number of non-qualifying medals on the day.
In boys action, Wilton Roberts was fourth and Markus Martin finished fifth in the 400, Daniel Puppe was fifth in the 300 hurdles, Austin Hall was fourth in the discus, Shane Benson placed sixth in the high jump, Trace Naeve was sixth in the pole vault, and the 400, 1600 and 3,200 relays finished second, fourth and fifth, respectively. On the girls side, Kinsey Hall was fifth in the long jump and sixth in the 100 hurdles, Ella Hartung placed sixth in the 300 hurdles, Reggan Kuhlman was fifth in the discus, Mallory Eriksen was sixth in the long jump and the 400-meter relay finished fifth.
LCC competes in the State Track and Field Championships Friday and Saturday in Omaha.
