Bears post 1-1 mark during home battles
LAUREL — The LCC Bears shot 53 percent from the field in a 67-50 win over Hartington-Newcastle last Tuesday, but couldn’t keep up the pace in a 67-63 home loss to Battle Creek on Thursday.
In the win over the Wildcats, the Bears had good balance in the scoring department with Cael Hartung and Evan Haisch scoring 19 and 18 points, respectively, to lead the way.
Deagan Puppe added nine points in the win, Jake Rath had seven and Evan Schmitt and Austin Hall both had six.
Haisch led the team in rebounds with six, while Hartung and Rath both had five. Hartung had four steals and Haisch grabbed three.
The Bears let Thursday’s game with the Braves get away as the visitors posted a 27-19 fourth quarter to turn things around.
Haisch had a game-high 22 points and Hartung added 19 for the Bears. Schmitt and Rath each had eight points and Puppe put in six.
Hartung led in rebounds with eight, Haisch had three assists and Schmitt had two steals.
The Bears hosted Osmond Tuesday and are at Wakefield Thursday, with the Lewis & Clark Conference tournament set to start on Saturday.
