Bears pick up, stay perfect on the season

LAUREL — The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge boys basketball team had no problems improving their record to 4-0 on the young season, posting a trio of blowout wins against Lewis & Clark Conference competition.

On Saturday, the Bears used a 36-0 second-quarter run to run away from Randolph for a 79-29 victory.

Twelve of the 13 players who saw action for LCC found their way into the scorebook in this contest.

The scoring Saturday was led by Cael Hartung’s game-high 20 points. Evan Schmitt added 12 points, Lucas Rasmussen had nine and Evan Haisch scored eight.

Also scoring were Austin Hall with six points, Wilton Roberts, Markus Martin and Carter Kvols each had four, and Grant Erwin, Dillon Olson, Trevin Boysen and Deagan Puppe had three points apiece.

Haisch had six rebounds and five assists and Hartung had four steals to lead LCC in those categories.

On Friday, LCC got out to a 21-5 lead in the first quarter and pulled away with a 61-32 home win over Tri County Northeast.

Hartung led all scorers with 20 points in the win while Hall had 10 and Haisch added nine. Also scoring were Schmitt with six, Rasmussen and Dylan Taylor both had four, Olson, Boysen and Kvols each had two and Puppe put in a free throw.

Puppe, Hartung and Hall shared rebounding honors with six apiece, Schmitt and Rasmussen both had three assists and Hartung had five steals while Schmitt and Puppe each had four.

Last Tuesday, the Bears limited Homer to a single field goal in the third quarter to help them win one on the road, taking the Knights 47-32.

Schmitt had a game-high 14 points, Haisch added 10 and Hartung and Puppe each had eight for the winners. Hall added four points and Rasmussen scored three.

Hall had 11 rebounds and Hartung grabbed eight. Schmitt and Haisch each had three assists and Puppe had four steals.
