Bears lose close games to finish fourth
LAUREL — The LCC boys basketball team lost a pair of close battles to settle for a fourthplace finish in the Lewis bracket of the Lewis & Clark Conference tournament.
The LCC boys saw an eightpoint fourth-quarter lead go by the boards in Thursday’s semifinals, as Osmond came from behind to edge the Bears, 48-47.
Jake Rath was the lone Bear in double figures, finishing with 17 points on 8-for-10 shooting from the field.
Also scoring were Evan Haisch with nine points, Wilton Roberts had eight, Cael Hartung had seven, Austin Hall scored four and Deagan Puppe had two.
Rath had a double-double with 14 rebounds and Haisch grabbed six along with a team-best four assists and five steals. Hartung added three assists and two steals.
In Saturday’s consolation game, the Bears lost another close one to Walthill, as the Blujays claimed consolation honors with a 66-62 triumph.
Five Bears were in double figures, led by Hartung’s 14 points. Rath had 13, Haisch scored 12 and Roberts and Puppe each had 10 points. Lucas Rasmussen rounded out the scoring with three points.
Rath had another doubledouble with 11 rebounds and Puppe grabbed five. Haisch had seven assists, Roberts added four and Hartung had two steals.
The Bears return to action with home games Thursday against Wisner-Pilger and Friday with Summerland. They close out the regular season next Friday, Feb. 19, at Wynot
