Bears, Lady Bears open the new track season in Wayne

LAUREL — Laurel-Concord-Coleridge opened its 2022 track season at the Wayne State College Outdoor Meet back on March 18 at Memorial Stadium and LeRoy Simpson Track in Wayne.

In past years the meet was conducted indoors, but nice weather prompted meet officials to take the competition outside.

No team points were awarded in the events, but plenty of Bears and Lady Bears found success on the Wayne State oval.

The Lady Bears had a great showing in the field events where Tali Erwin placed second in the high jump and third in the long jump with bests of four-foot-10 in the high jump and 14-10 in the long jump.

Mallory Eriksen had a second-place effort in the triple jump at 30-8 and Kinsey Hall was seventh in the long jump.

Berniece McCorkindale found success in the throws placing third in the shot put and fifth in the discus while teammate Reggan Kuhlman was third in the discus and sixth in the shot.

All three relay teams were in the hunt as the 3,200 relay team placed third and the 1,600 and 400 squads each placed fifth.

For the Bears, Deagan and Daniel Puppe swept both hurdle races, placing first and second in the 110 high hurdles and the 300 intermediate hurdles.

Deagan won both events with times of 15.5 seconds in the 110’s and 45.7 in the 300’s. Daniel ran 16.3 in the highs and 46.2 in the intermediates.

LCC also earned a first-place from Shane Benson in the high jump when he cleared 5-8.

The Bear’s 1,600 relay team of Markus Martin, Evan Haisch, Lucas Rasmussen and Wilton Roberts was third while the 3,200 relay team of Tyler Olson, Carter Korth, Landen Leonard and Dillon Olson came in second to Stanton.
