Bears end losing streak with Creighton win
LAUREL — Laurel-Concord-Coleridge’s boys snapped a two-game losing streak with a 51-31 win over Creighton in a rescheduled game held Friday at Creighton High School.
The Bears got out to a 10-1 lead after one period, but Creighton came back to get within five at the break. LCC regained the momentum in the second half and pulled away with the easy win.
Three Bears finished in double figures, led by Cael Hartung’s 14 points. Jake Rath added 12 points, and Evan Haisch put in 11 to help in the win. Deagan Puppe added six points, Lucas Rasmussen scored five and Wilton Roberts put in three.
Rath had a double-double with his team-best 14 rebounds, while Haisch added eight boards. Hartung had three assists in the win.
LCC dropped a pair of close losses, falling at Wakefield 53-49 and losing a heartbreaker at home to Osmond, 48-45.
In the loss to Wakefield, Haisch was the only Bear in double figures, finishing with 18 points. Puppe added nine points, Rath had eight, Hartung scored six, Roberts had five and Austin Hall put in three.
Rath led the team in rebounds with eight while Hartung and Haisch each had five.
Against Osmond, Hartung had 15 and Haisch added 13 to lead the LCC effort. Rath scored nine points, Puppe had six and Schmitt had two.
Rath had 12 rebounds, Haisch grabbed nine and Puppe had seven.
LCC defeated Wakefield Monday in first-round action at the Lewis & Clark Conference tournament. The Bears now take on Osmond Thursday at Walthill.
