Bears earn comeback win over EMF playoff action

LAUREL — The Bears earned a 30-26 first-round playoff win Thursday against Exeter-Milligan-Friend.

Neither offense was able to make much headway in the first frame, as the quarter ended with the teams deadlocked at 0-0.

EMF got on the board first when Chase Svehla hauled in a 35-yard pass from Christian Weber. Weber then hit JB Drake for the two-point conversion to take an 8-0 early lead.

The Bears got on the board a few minutes later when Evan Schmitt broke free on a 53-yard TD romp. The conversion attempt failed, so EMF held an 8-6 advantage.

The Bears took the 14-6 lead when Evan Haisch capped off a solid drive with a one-yard plunge. Evan Schmitt then hit Sutton Ehlers for the two-point conversion.

EMF took the lead in the second half on a pair of Brecken Schulter runs and a one-yard Weber plunge. The Bears closed out the third quarter with an 18-yard Evan Haisch TD run to pull within four points — 26-22 with just one quarter left in the game.

The Bears regained the lead, 30-26, when Evan Haisch got by the defense, then hauled in an Evan Schmitt pass. He then raced to paydirt on a 43-yard TD play. Evan Haisch ran it in for the two-point conversion. The Bear defense shut down EMF for the win.

The Orange and Black defense was led in the contest by Sutton Ehlers and Deagan Puppe who collected  13 stops each.
