Bear comeback results in 22-14 home win

LAUREL — After lighting up the scoreboard for 78 points in their season opener, the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Bears were held scoreless in the first half by a salty Wisner-Pilger squad.

The Bears answered the challenge in the second half, however, as the defense came to life and Evan Haisch found the end zone three times to help the Orange and Black come back for a 22-14 win over the Gators at Haskell Field.

After a quiet first quarter, Wisner-Pilger put together a pair of scoring drives to take a 14-0 halftime lead.

Klay Koehlmoos had a hand in both scores, scoring on a one-yard run and catching a 33-yard pass from Regan Beller to stake the Gators to the two-score advantage.

LCC took over the game in the second half, however, jumping on the back of junior running back Evan Haisch, who found the end zone three times in the final two periods.

Haisch scored his first touchdown on a 10-yard run in the third period to make it 14-6 going to the final frame, then scored on a five-yard run to tie the game and a 21-yard run later in the fourth stanza for the winning touchdown to help the Bears improve to 2-0 on the young season.

Individual statistics were not available at press time. The Bears will put their two-game winning streak on the line Friday in Stanton.
