Beal will represent Randolph at the State track meet

HUMPHREY — The girls track season is not over for the Randolph Lady Cardinals as they will be represented by one lone athlete in Omaha this weekend at the Class D state finals.

Junior Bailey Beal advanced out of District D-3 in the high jump, as she won the event with a 4-11. She also finished third in the long jump at 15-10 and advanced as an extra qualifier. Beal also ran a fourth-best time of 13.28 in the 100 to also advance to Omaha as an extra qualifier.

Beal scored 20 of the Lady Cardinals’ 21 points at Thursday’s district track meet while Nicole Haselhorst picked up the other point by getting sixth place in the 100-meter hurdles with a PR of 18.31.

“The other highlight of the day was Erin Engel making the finals of the shot put and throwing a PR and a school-best of 30-7,” Randolph girls coach Ted Stubbs said. “She finished just out of a medal.”

Stubbs said that Beal should expect to be pretty busy at state.

“ O n Friday she will long jump at 11:30, and run the 100 prelims at 3:05,” Stubbs said. “On Saturday, she will high jump at 9:30 and possibly run the 100 finals at 3:25.

“Overall, the coaches were extremely proud of the all the girls efforts yesterday and appreciate the hard work and dedication they all showed throughout the season.”

Stubbs also noted his excitement for the performance of senior Ryanne Winkelbauer who recorded her personal best in the 800 with a 2:58.01.

Sophomore Ella Scott said that the way the Randolph girls track team continued to trend toward the end of the spring was a boon to the athletes’ confidence going forward into the offseason.

“I wish I could have gone down to state too with some other girls, but it was nice that Bailey went in more than one event,” Scott said. “(A grind) is a good way to put it. We didn’t have many injuries and since it’s not a quite a team sport so they wouldn’t have hurt us as bad. Everybody found an event that works for them.

“If we would have just ended basketball season and went right into next year’s volleyball with no track at all, that would have been a huge difference. This puts some air (in the tires) sort of thing.”

Justin Guenther finished 12th in the two-mile and 13th in the mile run.
