American Legion Post to support baseball team

OSMOND —Commander Dave Hamm conducted the regular meeting of American Legion Post 326 on Tuesday, June 9, with 17 members present. Colors were presented and the POW/MIA FLAG was places by Vice Commander Dave Kruse. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all and a prayer was offered by Chaplain Wes Kumm.

Guests included Shannon Wisely, Zach Huwaldt, Zach Alderson, Dylan Schmit and Brody Stech. Remembered on sick call were Wayne Blunck, Neil Bloomquist, Gerald Kumm, Ron Aschoff and Henry Schmit.

The commander thanked the 12 Legionnaires and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) members and the eight Sons of the American Legion (SAL) members who participated in and/or attended the Memorial Day remembrance that was held at the mock cemetery set up at Osmond Community School on May 25. He also thanked the many Legionnaires, VFW and SAL members who took care of the cemeteries, mock cemetery and the Flags of the Honored 15, and those citizens who attended in their vehicles.

A report on the pancake feed was given by the commander. Fundraisers were cancelled because of the coronavirus shut-down.

Shannon Wisely and several guests present spoke on the Legion baseball team and plans to hold games beginning this month. The post will continue to support this effort.

The Legion family picnic is planned for the second Thursday in August. It was noted that June 14 is Flag Day.

Election of officers was then held. Members voted for all current officers to continue in their position for the 2020-21 positions: Dave Hamm, commander; Dave Kruse, vice commander; Dean Steukrath, finance officer; dallas Steckelberg, sergeant-at-arms; Wes Kumm, chaplain; Marvin Koehler, sevice officer

The commander read thank you letters from the Department of Nebraska and the National Headquarters for the post’s donation to the National Emergency Fund. The post also was awarded a certificate for 95% membership retention for 2018-19, Americanism and Children’s and Youth Programs.

The next regular meeting will be July 14.

With no further business, Commander Hamm closed the meeting with a closing prayer by Chaplain Kumm. He then invited all to enjoy a meal of hamburgers, baked beans and chips, prepared and served by Tom Borst, Dave Kruse, Dave Schoenauer, Jerry Dennis and Tom Kruse.
