Wausa FBLA Students place in top 10 at the virtual National Leadership Conference

WAUSA — When the 2019-20 school year started Wausa FBLA students began working on events for the State Leadership Conference (SLC) held in April. Little would we know that the conference would not take place due to Covid19. All of the projects were sent in to the state in February, and luckily all of those events were still judged even though the conference was not held. SLC results are as follows with those placing in the top 3 being able to advance to the national competition: 1st place—Digital Video Production (Taylor Kumm, Jailynn Story, and Trey McQuay) 1st place—Publication Design (Taylor Kumm, Kaitlyn Kumm, and Ali Lundberg) 1st place—Social Media Campaign (Kaitlyn Kumm, Melanie Vanness, and Leah Bloomquist) 2nd place—Business Financial Plan (Hannah Hubers, Ann Woockman, and McKayla Hoppe) 2nd place—Client Service (Hannah Hubers) 2nd place—Graphic Design (Kaitlyn Kumm, Isabelle Vanness, and Taylor Kumm) 2nd place—Intro to Business Presentation (Darla Nelson, Tyler Baue, and Abrielle Nelson) 2nd place—Sales Presentation (Derek Gillilian) 3rd place—Broadcast Journalism (Kaitlyn Kumm, Isabelle Vanness, and Jailynn Story) 3rd place—Public Speaking (Isabelle Vanness) 4th place—Public Service Announcement (Jailynn Story, Melanie Vanness, and Taylor Kumm) 7th place—E-Business (Ainsley Nelson, Ali Lundberg, and Leah Bloomquist) 7th place—Business Ethics (Esther Nelson, Dawson Thorell, and Will Hagge) The virtual National Leadership Conference was held on June 29-July 1. There were 10,237 registered attendees with 8,378 competitors. Students were able to connect to the opening ceremony, attend virtual workshops, watch national officer campaigns, and witness the closing ceremony where the new national officer team was announced. Wausa had 17 students competing in the national conference in the following events: Ann Woockman and McKayla Hoppe; Business Financial Plan, Hannah Hubers; Client Service, Trey McQuay; Digital Video Production, Kaitlyn Kumm; Graphic Design, Darla Nelson, Tyler Baue, and Abrielle Nelson; Intro to Business Presentation, Isabelle Vanness; Public Speaking, Taylor Kumm and Ali Lundberg; Publication Design, Derek Gillilian; Sales Presentation, Melanie Vanness and Leah Bloomquist; Social Media Campaign, Jailynn Story; Public Service Announcement, Esther Nelson; Accounting II, Ainsley Nelson; Personal Finance. On July 15, the top 10 places in each event were announced. Congratulation to the following students for receiving top 10 finishes: Ali Lundberg and Taylor Kumm; 6th place in Publication Design, Kaitlyn Kumm; 6th place in Graphic Design, Derek Gillilian; 7th place in Sales Presentation The Wausa chapter also received 1st place in the nation in the Market Share Award. This award calculates the percentage of high school students who are members in the chapter. Wausa’s percentage for 2019-20 was 82%.
