Wausa FBLA brings home State Leadership Conference awards

WAUSA — FBLA students look forward to the State Leadership Conference almost as soon as school starts up in the Fall.

Several students begin work on prejudged events, such as Graphic Design, Digital Video Production, Business Financial Plan just to name a few, in October because the deadline to submit projects is the middle of February. Wausa competed in 17 prejudged events. Needless to say, students and adviser were busy.

The Conference was scheduled for March 30-April 1 but was canceled due to Covid-19. However, awards were presented to the prejudged events. Wausa placed in the top eight in 13 events with 19 students receiving recognition. There were several students who were doubled up in events. It would have been great to have them experience going on the stage at the Award Ceremony to receive multiple awards.

First Place: Digital Video Production (Taylor Kumm, Jailynn Story, Trey McQuay); Publication Design (Taylor Kumm, Kaitlyn Kumm, Ali Lundberg); Social Media Campaign (Kaitlyn Kumm, Melanie Vanness, Leah Bloomquist).

Second Place: Business Financial Plan (Hannah Hubers, Ann Woockman, McKayla Hoppe); Client Service (Hannah Hubers); Graphic Design (Kaitlyn Kumm, Isabelle Vanness, Taylor Kumm); Introduction to Business Presentation (Darla Nelson, Tyler Baue, Abrielle Nelson); Sales Presentation (Derek Gillilan).

Third Place: Broadcast Journalism (Kaitlyn Kumm, Isabelle Vanness, Jailynn Story); Public Speaking (Isabelle Vanness).

Fourth Place: Public Service Announcement (Jailynn Story, Melanie Vanness, Taylor Kumm).

Seventh Place: E-Business (Ainsley Nelson, Ali Lundberg, Leah Bloomquist); Business Ethics (Esther Nelson, Dawson Thorell, Will Hagge).

The following students received the All-State Quality member award for compiling over 100 points relating to community, chapter, school, and professional activities: Kaitlyn Kumm, Taylor Kumm, Esther Nelson, Melanie Vanness, Isabelle Vanness and Tyler Baue.

The following students earned recognition for national awards: Future level of FBLA goes to Tyler Baue and Abrielle Nelson. Esther Nelson also received national recognition in the CSA (Community Service) Award for completing 200 hours. Wausa’s Chapter received the Sweepstakes Award which consisted of completing several projects for our community. Kaitlyn Kumm received the Who’s Who Award, which showcased her above and beyond dedication to FBLA.

The National Leadership Conference will be held virtually June 29-July 1. The following students qualified to compete in the National Leadership Conference: Kaitlyn Kumm, Isabelle Vanness, Jailynn Story, Hannah Nelson, Ann Woockman, McKayla Hoppe, Taylor Kumm, Trey McQuay, Darla Nelson, Tyler Baue, Abrielle Nelson, Ali Lundberg, Derek Gillilan, Melanie Vanness and Leah Bloomquist.

There is a possibility for additional qualifiers: Esther Nelson, Dawson Thorell, Will Hagge and Ainsley Nelson.
