Voice of Democracy Contest winners announced

RANDOLPH — There were 16 seniors from the Randolph High School competing in the yearly Voice of Democracy contest. The VFW Post 5545 and Auxiliary kindly allows the students to participate in this contest that could lead to scholarships and other awards.

This year’s theme was “Is This the Country Our Founding Fathers Envisioned?” The students wrote and recorded their work expressing their thoughts about the topic. The recordings needed to be three-five minutes in length in order to qualify and the first round of competition takes place in Randolph.

This year is the first time there has been a tie for first place. Alex Heiman and Tyson Junck both placed first. Their work will be presented at the Veteran’s Day program at the Randolph High School Nov. 11, and it will be sent to the next level for competition. Abby Schmit placed second

Abby Schmit placed second and Emmalee Harder placed third. They will be reading their essays at the Memorial Day program in May.
