Two new candidates seek school board seat

HARTINGTON - Two new candidates have filed for Laurel-Concord-Coleridge School Board.

Bryan Pippitt and Cade Sohler, both of Laurel, are seeking a four-year term on the board. All five incumbents have also filed to retain seats and in a reduction of school board members only four will be elected this fall.

Sohler said he never really considered running for school board until townspeople approached him.

“I don’t have any grand political aspirations but I’ve never had a problem voicing an opinion,” he said.

Sohler who has lived in Laurel for the past 45 years owns Laurel Sales Co. and Laurel Livestock Trucking. He has two children currently attending the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge School.

As of Tuesday morning, a spot remained open for Laurel city council after Mark Koch decided not to run.

The only contested county race on the primary ballot in May is for Cedar County Board of Commissioners.

In District 1, Commissioner Chris Tramp of Crofton faces opposition from Dick Donner of Aten. In District 2, Commissioner Dave McGregor of Hartington faces opposition from Kelly Hammer of Coleridge. During re-districting, Coleridge became a part of District 2.
