Speech team shows off their performance chops

OSMOND — The Osmond High School speech team presented their public speech night on Monday, Feb. 28, to showcase what they have been doing this year.

The students were split into two groups — one in the lunch room and one in the band room for the first six presentations in each group. The audiences then joined together in the lunch room for the final three performances.

The performances given by each student were as follows:

Makenzie Vaughn,  Andrew’s Poem. This was a poem about a mother who had lost her 5-year-old son in a drowning accident. The poem follows her life after the accident and how she grieved.

Erica Heiman, poetry, “Virtuoso Literature for Two and Four Hands.” This poem was about how a woman used the art of music to help her through struggling times.

Isaac Harder, extemporaneous

Kaden Polt, humorous, “Survivor Kid.” A kid gets lost in a grocery store and runs into outrageous characters, including a pigeon. He is then reunited with his dad after a few minutes, but in his mind it was days.

Isaac Harder, persuasive, “Benefits of Ethanol.”

Julianna Kumm, Serious, “The Day the Voices Stopped.” This script follows the life of a young lady who starts to experience symptoms of schizophrenia.

Matthew Alderson, extemporaneous, on the issue of  employment

James Doyle, humorous, “Bursting,” about a man who really has to go to the bathroom so badly he is “bursting,” and the strange people he meets in the mall as he looks for a restroom.

Kenzie von Rentzell, persuasive, “Doomscrolling,” about how people scroll through scary or depressing stories online, and how to stop this trend.

Riley Wagner, serious prose, “To Morning,” which follows a nurse through her shift, in which three of her patients die.

Riley Wagner and Kaden Polt, duet, “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-along Blog.”

Riley Wagner, Erin Wagner, Kaden Polt, James Doyle and Erica Heiman, oral interpretation of drama (OID), “Get a Clue.” The group tries to solve a “murder” in this comedy skit.
