School is getting ready for new year

RANDOLPH — It’s hard to believe, but it’s already time to think about students heading back to school.

The Randolph School Board set its school registration and open house at its July meeting.

School registration will be from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 3, and 1 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 4. The elementary will host an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 16

The Randolph School Board continues to discuss plans for the construction of a new agriculture and art building, but no formal decisions have been made.

At its meeting last week, the school board considered plans for the new building which would include an art room, a woods lab, a metals lab, paint room, a kiln and art supply room.

The agriculture department would have classrooms and other space available to them at the new building as well.

The building construction would be cement which would become a storm shelter for students.

The Board went into executive session to conduct an evaluation of Superintendent Jeff Hoesing.

At its meeting last week, the School Board also:

• Approved a cooperative with Laurel-Concord-Coleridge school to support girls wrestling for the upcoming academic year and 2022-23.

• Held open hearings on student fees, student bullying, and parental involvement policies.

• Heard an update on air conditioning installed in the Cardinal Kids Learning Center kitchen, and carpet and air conditioning installed in an additional elementary classroom.

• Discussed the installation and repair of water fountains by Kelly Thieman and Paul’s Welding.

• Discussed the need to purchase a used minivan.

• Approved the certified and classified handbooks.

• Appointed Hoesing as Randolph Public Schools Chief Executive Officer; and local, state, and federal program director; and affirmative action coordinator for the 2021-22 school year.

• Appointed Walter Worlein as school vehicle inspector.

• Approved an open account for purchasing employee life insurance and disability policies from Dearborn National Life Insurance Company.
