School board begins focus group meetings with OCS staff members

OSMOND — The Osmond school board is seeking input on the future of our school. Several different community groups will be involved. In January, we invited teachers to fill out a questionnaire and then discuss it with the board.

Questions discussed included school facilities, needs of the school, the need to keep a school presence in the community, communication, and the biggest challenges the teachers have in doing their job effectively.

Discussion was held on the difference between co-oping and consolidation. The current co-oping of activities with Wausa was considered very favorable. The involvement of the school in the community was noted. For example, clean-up day and the Veterans Day program. Communication between community and school continues to expand with the school website and their Facebook page. Current classes including dual credit classes and money provided for college classes were considered very positive steps.

A discussion was held on the need for the school to have a preschool if the current providers were ever to close. Teachers noted that early involvement in education is greatly needed and those children unable to attend a preschool may struggle in kindergarten. Factors that are preventing families from moving into Osmond were noted

Factors that are preventing families from moving into Osmond were noted as housing, day care and jobs. Teachers gave opinions on the needs of the school and what the priorities should be.
