Over 100 musicians, vocalists to participate in HAWKFEST

NORFOLK — A large number of area high school musicians and vocalists showcased their talents  at Northeast Community College. hosting the second annual Hawkfest last Monday, Oct. 21.

The event featured 110 students, approximately 50 in band and 60 in choir, from 23 area high schools.

The honor band was under the direction of Kevin McLouth, director of instrumental activities at Northeast, while the honor choir was led by Stewart Cramer, Northeast’s director of vocal activities.

McLouth said students earned entrance to HAWKFEST through an audition process.

“Participating students will spend the day in intense rehearsals that will culminate in a public performance that evening,” he said.  

The performance will be held at 5:30 p.m., in the Lifelong Learning Center on Northeast’s Norfolk campus. It is free and open to the public.

Participating high schools include Allen Consolidated, Battle Creek, Clearwater, Creighton, Crofton, Elkhorn Valley Schools, Hartington-Newcastle, Homer, Lakeview (Columbus), Lutheran High Northeast, Neligh-Oakdale, Oakland-Craig, O’Neill, Osmond, Pierce, Ponca, Pope John XXIII (Elgin), Randolph, St. Edward, Wakefield, Wausa, West Point-Beemer, and Winside.
