Osmond FFA participates in competitions

The Osmond FFA Chapter has participated in numerous events during the school year, including judging contests, the national convention and the District IV Leadership Development Event competitions. During National FFA Week, some of those competitions are covered here, while more news will be published next week.

National Convention

INDIANAPOLIS — Every year, FFA members nationwide converge on the National FFA Conven- tion & Expo to celebrate their accomplishments and nd inspiration for their next steps. The 92nd Annual National FFA Convention & Expo was held Oct. 30- Nov. 2 in Indianapolis, IN.

For the second year in a row, Osmond FFA Chapter advisor Jessica Evans has coordinated a charter bus trip for her students and the students of four other area chapters to travel to the National FFA Convention & Expo in Indianapolis. This year ve Osmond FFA students traveled to the National FFA Convention & Expo. These students were senior Zachary Alderson, junior Zachary Boyle, sopho- more Ryan Schmit, and freshmen Caden Wingert and Reese Hanna.

and advisors departed
the Osmond Community Schools parking lot on Tuesday, Oct. 29. Students attended contests and convention activities all day Wednesday, Oct. 30, and Thursday, Oct. 31. 

During the convention, the Os- mond FFA Chapter was recognized in the 2019 National Chapter Award Program. This program recognizes outstanding FFA chapters from throughout the country that actively implement the mission and strate- gies of the organization. Chapters are rewarded for providing edu- cational experiences for the entire membership.

On Friday, Nov. 1, students spent the day touring Chicago before departing for home. Some of the additional tours that students ex- perienced included the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Millennium Park in Chicago, The Chicago Architec- ture Center Riverboat Tour, Soldier Field, and the John Deere Tractor & Engine Museum. The charter bus arrived back in Osmond on Saturday, Nov. 2. 

District IV LDE

CROFTON — The District IV FFA Leadership Development Event Competition was held at Crofton High School on Wednes- day, Dec. 11, 2019. Fifteen students grades 8-12 from the Osmond FFA Chapter competed in six different contests. Freshmen Robert Aschoff and Zachary Reikofski represented the Osmond FFA CHapter in the creed speaking event, receiving purple and blue ribbons, respectively.

Lexi Beacom and Madeline Huwaldt competed in the senior public speaking event, both receiving blue ribbons. In the cooperative speaking event, Mason Gansesbom received the third place purple ribbon and is the alternate for the state competition in  April, while Ryan Schmit recieved fourth place and a purple ribbon.

Two teams from Osmond competed in the agricultur- al demonstration event. The team of Ryan Schmit, Con- nor Gutz, Blake Bahr and Zach Huwaldt prepared a demonstration on how to test the quality of well wa- ter; while the team of Caden Wing- ert, Reese Hanna and Logan Stelling prepared a dem- onstration on how to change the seed plates in a planter. The water qual- ity demonstration received a blue rib- bon. The seed plates demonstration re- ceived a red ribbon.

Eighth grade member Matthew Alderson competed in the People in Ag- riculture Pathways Poster event, recieving a purple ribbon.

Landon Stelling and Zachary Alderson represented Osmond in the employment skills competition. Both participants had to create a resume, cover letter and complete an actual job application before their interviews. Zachary Alderson received third place, purple ribbon and is the alternate for the state com- petition, while Landon Stelling won the contest and will be competing at the State Convention in April.
