New student teacher is among Osmond’s staff

OSMOND — If you’d look around Osmond schools you’ll notice a new face among the staff. She looks as young as a student, many have mistaken her for one, but she’s the new student teacher helping the paras in the special ed room.

AmberAlbrecht lived in and graduated from Pierce. As a young girl, she loved to play and work around the farm and she loved playing girls’ golf in high school. When she graduated, she attended the University of South Dakota to specialize in elementary and special ed programs.

“At first, my main focus was being an elementary education teacher, but found the liking of special ed while I was up in college,” Ms .Albrecht said.

This inspiration to expand her major was while she was working with a student at a preschool. Ms. Albrecht was helping the student out with the student’s shapes and making funlearning activities for her. Later she found out that the student was falling into the special ed category.

“And that sparked my interest in special ed,” Ms. Albrecht added.

One of her favorite parts about her job is seeing the children she’ll be working with until the end of the year. “I love seeing their expressions when you’re talking to them. I also love learning about who they are and getting to know them, not only as students but as a friend too,” Ms. Albrecht said.

In Ms.Albrecht’s free time she likes to drink Dr. Pepper and play golf.
