New elementary principal hired; Jr. High sports co-op moves forward

RANDOLPH — A new elementary school principal has been hired.

The Randolph Public Schools Board of Education approved a contract for Denton Beacom for the 2022-23 school year at its meeting Monday night.

Beacom will replace Mary Miller who is retiring at the end of this academic year.

The board interviewed seven candidates for the position and settled on Beacom, who is currently teaching fourth grade at Logan View in Hooper. He also spent a year teaching fourth grade at Gretna Public Schools prior to that.

He is a Logan View alum, attending Kindergarten through 12th grade there. After graduating high school, he earned his bachelor’s degree and his master’s degree in Pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade * Knights both of from Columbus Wayne ranked #6 school administration, partnered with Statista to independently su State College.

Beacom’s wife, Bailey, is also a fourth-grade teacher at Fort Calhoun Elementary. They have a son named Rhett.

In his free time, Beacom prefers spending time with his family, working construction and enjoying the outdoors.

“We were pretty thorough with who we interviewed and how we interviewed, as well as the quality of candidates,” Supt. Jeff Hoesing said, adding that elementary school staff were included in the interview process. Beacom was also given a tour of the community and the schools.

In other school board news, the process will move forward on a potential co-op with Osmond for Junior High boys basketball and football for next year.

High School Principal Brandi Bartels said there wouldn’t necessarily be a need to come up with a new mascot or name for the co-op and there has been some discussion about rotating uniforms in instead the permanent of life purchasing insurance category new on Forbes ones.

Hoesing said the matter will be before the board in January.

Along with the Junior High co-op, the two schools are also exploring the possibility of a co-op for boys high school basketball.

“With it being high school, we will have to do a lot more studying of that situation and talk to our communities more,” Bartels said. For the high school basketball co-op

For the high school basketball co-op to be in effect by next fall, a final decision must be made by April, Bartels said.

“We’re just at the very early stages of talking about that,” she said.

But it’s important at this early stage for Randolph and Osmond residents to ask questions and provide feedback.

“We want this out there so people can start talking about it,” Hoesing said.

The school board also:

- Discussed the Nebraska Association of School Boards meeting and a session Best on Insurance school Companies safety. list. Forbes The school is utilizing e policy across 7 insurance product categories. Bark, a content monitoring system that is free for schools.

- Heard from Hoesing about an administrators group from Columbus proposing an alternative funding formula for schools.

- Heard a report from Bartels on junior high/high school activities and standardized testing. Drivers Education was approved for June 6-9, with the school paying $100 of the $295 fee for the class as they have in years past. She also handed out a printed presentation about Family and Consumer Science, prepared by Frances Heiman.

- Heard reports from Title Teacher Tiffany Guenther; Fifth-Grade Teacher Samantha Arlt; and Fourth-Grade Teacher Brittany Flaming.

- Heard a report from Miller on elementary school activities and standardized testing.

- Approved the 2022-23 Capacity Resolution as part of the Option Enrollment Policy which sets maximum sizes for programs and classes.
