Wausa FBLA students place in top 10 at Virtual National Conference

WAUSA — Wausa had 17 students compete in 10 different events at the virtual National Leadership Conference from June 29-July 2.

Performance events met via Zoom with judges for their preliminary round.

These rounds took place June 14-15 and 21-22. Finals were conducted in the same fashion a week later.

Holly Johnson and Addison Wynia both advanced to the final round and placed sixth at the National Leadership Conference in their event — Introduction to Social Media Strategy.

Students participated in the virtual conference in Omaha where they listened to two keynote speakers, Aron Ralston (author of “Caught Between a Rock and a Hard Space”) and Gitanjali Rao (Time Kid of the Year).

Ralston’s message was about turning boulders into blessings. Everyone has challenges, which are the boulders, and people need to adjust/accept the challenges and figure out how to persevere.

Students also participated in the Mountain Plains regional meeting as well as the Nebraska meeting.

In addition, students attended two workshops and learned how to build a winning resume and ace an interview.

The National officer candidates campaigned, which gave the students the opportunity to watch this process at the national level.

A fun activity ended the conference with students working on their teamwork skills to find their way out of an “Escape Room.”

Students competed in the following events at NLC:

Presentations Events: Tyler Baue and Leah Bloomquist, Broadcast Journalism; Ali Lundberg and Abrielle Nelson, E-Business; Emma Story, Introduction to Public Speaking; Holly Johnson and Addison Wynia, Introduction to Social Media Strategy; Trey McQuay and Darla Nelson, Public Service Announcement; Kilee Thorell, Introduction to Business Presentation; Emily Kleinschmit and Emily Woockman, Website Design; Cory Schumacher and Morgan Kleinschmit, Business Financial Plan; Reghan Bloomquist and Madisyn West, Publication Design.
