LCC Speech Team finds success as they complete a busy season

LAUREL — The last 10 days of the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge speech team season were comparable to a roller coaster.

Emotions ran high as the Bears entered their District meet after a busy 10-day period.

The Bears started off with a trip to the 20-team Wisner-Pilger Gator Gab Fest.

With nearly 40 entries in every event, LCC held its own against some great competition.

Two days later, LCC headed back to Wisner for the annual Pilger Cardinal Triangular with W-P and Wakefield.

While the main purpose of the triangular is to get verbal feedback from NSAA official judges, there remains a small competition between the three schools.

The top four speakers in each event earned old 4-H and bowling trophies that were repurposed from Dixon County.

LCC finished as team champions earning a huge bowling trophy.

The Bears continued their busy week on Friday with their community performance to showcase all of the hard work they had put in to the season.

There was a great turnout on hand to watch as one of the few chances to watch the kids perform.

The following day, LCC hosted its first speech meet in quite a few years. While a smaller meet, the competition on the day was fierce and competitive.

Some judges commented that finals at LCC’s meet was as tough, if not tougher than some of the finals at the actual state meet.

The Bears finished fourth in the team standings.

Finally, the Bears packed up and headed to Hartington-Newcastle for the C2-2 District Meet.

The Bears gave it everything they had and represented LCC well in a District that many coaches around the state claimed was tougher than state.

LCC managed to send five into finals, but sadly the Bears continued to find themselves in the heartbreak position of fourth, finishing right outside of the state qualifying position.

LCC’s great season finished for the year, but has a great starting point for next season.
