LCC completes ceiling and lighting project

— Angie Steffen Laurel Advocate

LAUREL —The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge School Board approved a project in December called “Phase One’’ of ceiling and lighting project for $39,359. The project was completed and initiated during holiday break.

“This project is part of a strategic facility plan to update ceilings and lighting throughout the district school facilities,’’ said LCC Supt. Jeremy Christiansen. “Other phases will address ceiling and light renovations in other sections of our school campuses. There are currently no established formal timelines for other phases of the project.”

The Board’s Transportation, Building and Grounds Committee has been studying this project for at least two or three years.

“They had looked at having this work done a few years back when they completed the main entrance and campus security renovation, however, at that time the cost was prohibitive,’’ Christiansen said. “The Board committee shared their recommendation with the full board to have the project completed at this time due to continued deterioration with this section of ceiling.”

Menford Electric, Fordyce, was the primary contractor for the project.  The subcontractor was Korth Construction.

The project is limited to the main entrance hallway and the hallways outside the school’s two gymnasiums at the Laurel campus.

“The most noticeable difference will be the brightness and clarity in hallways.  Updated LED light fixtures, as well as new ceiling grid and tiles will greatly enhance the appearance in these areas that see a significant amount of school and public traffic,’’ Christiansen said. “This project serves as an example of our school board’s commitment to maintaining quality school facilities, while focusing on efficiency.”
