LCC Christmas concerts will go virtual this year

LAUREL — There are few traditional, holiday events more festive than the annual school winter music programs.

Unfortunately, the ongoing challenges presented by the pandemic, including student and director illnesses, interrupted rehearsals, and restrictions placed on indoor gatherings and spectator numbers, have all contributed to the decision to cancel this year’s Winter Concerts as scheduled in December.

As students and music teachers have dedicated much effort already in preparation for the concerts, it would be disappointing if they were unable to showcase and share their musical talents and efforts to some extent, said LCC Supt. Jeremy Christensen.

LCC music teachers Patti Beyeler and Jenni Lundahl, will continue to work with their student musicians to prepare, video record, and post musical selections on the school district’s YouTube channel prior to the Christmas break commencing on Dec. 22.

In this way, families will still have the opportunity to watch, enjoy and share in the festive musical talents of students, Christensen said, noting that more information would be available in the coming weeks.
