Knox County Spelling Bee

CENTER — The Knox County Spelling Bee was held Feb. 19 at the Knox County Courthouse. Students from the Knox County schools participated in the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade contests.

The winner of the seventh and eighth contest was Molly Miller, Bloomfield School. She is the daughter of Eric and Danielle Miller.

Molly will be representing Knox County at the Regional Spelling Bee sponsored by the Omaha World Herald. It will be held March 29. Earning the second place trophy was Irene Burrell, daughter of Chris and Adrien Burrell, Creighton Schools. The third place trophy winner was Isaac Pavlik, Verdigre School, son of Kent and Amy Pavlik. Other contestants were Jessica Anderson, daughter of Jaime Anderson, Wausa; Brady Koehn, son of Brett and Nichole Koehn, Niobrara; and Kaylee Mauch, daughter of Mike and Judy Mauch, Crofton.

The sixth grade trophy winner was Payden Anderson, son of Leroy and Katrina Anderson, Crofton. Carter Hans, son of Jason and Becky Hans, took home the second place trophy, and earning third place was Julius Brandt, son of Seymour and Liz Brandt, Niobrara. Others competing were Emily Guenther, daughter of Tony and Kim Guenther, St. Rose of Lima, Crofton; Gage Vesely, son of Jason and Angela Vesely, Verdigre; Aiyanna Wabasha, daughter of Waylon Wabasha, Santee School; Karter Gragert, son of Brandon and Tara Gragert, St. Ludger, Creighton; and Ben Johnson, son of Jeremy and Mary Johnson, Creighton.

The fifth grade winner was Kaylee Kloster, daughter of Eric and Alica Kloster, Crofton. Myranda Eckmann daughter, Tess Eckmann and Regg Eckmann, Bloomfield, was second. The third place trophy went to Ian Crockett, son of Robert and Susan Crockett, Creighton. Also competing were Addison Reynolds, daughter of Mike and Amy Reynolds, Niobrara; Jazzmyn Wieseler, daughter of Shane and Wendy Wieseler, St. Rose of Lima, Crofton; Isaac Fanta, Duane and Sara Fanta, St. Lugder, Creighton; Oscar Mercado, son of Sidney Tuttle, Santee School; and Nora Kucera, daughter of Chuck and Jenny Kucera, Verdigre.

Helping with the contest in cooperation with JoAnn Fischer, Knox County Clerk, and Matt Fischer, Clerk of the District Court, were members of the Alpha Lambda, Mary Eiler, Kathy Foner, Ellen Freeman, Sheila Keeler, Karen Peters, Jayne Tschirren and Mona Weatherwax.

Alpha Lambda is a Knox County women’s teacher’s group consisting of retired and active teachers from the various schools in Knox County.
