FFA members excel at Dist. competition

EMERSON — On Wednesday, Dec. 16, Twenty-six Laurel-Concord-Coleridge FFA Chapter members attended District Leadership Development Events in Emerson.

These events are centered around skills including speaking, job interviews, agriculture demonstrations and parliamentary procedure.

There are 19 schools in the district. Each school can send up to two students/teams in an event. The top two individuals/teams from the district advance to state with third place being the alternate to state.

Maddy Graham was the District Champion in Employment Skills and will be advancing to state.

Brianna Campbell was District Runner-Up and will be advancing to state as well in Employment Skills.

Employment Skills requires students to submit a resume, cover letter and references before the event. At districts they complete a job application, an initial interview and write a follow-up letter. Four students are then chosen to do an interview in a final round.

LCC’s other State Qualifier is the Junior High Quiz Bowl team. The team was Runner-Up at Districts and consisted of Lilly Pehrson, Tanner Hansen, Carter Korth and Connor Korth.

The Quiz Bowl competition is a series of rounds where teams compete one on one and are asked questions regarding all topics in the agriculture industry.
