Diandra Polt receives P.E.O. Scholarship

PIERCE — P.E.O. Chapter BE recently announced the recipients of its local scholarships for the 2020 school year. Seven senior students applied for the two awards. The criteria for the scholarships are academics, citizenship, and volunteerism. The chairman of the selection committee stated that all seven of the candidates were highly qualified and the choices were difficult. Supporting women to meet their educational goals is the chief philanthropy of the International P.E.O.

Chapter BE P.E.O. Marguerite Scholar and Citizen Award was first awarded in 1998. This scholarship was established by Chapter BE members through personal donations. Interest income from this initial investment is paid out yearly in scholarship. Diandra Polt, a senior at Osmond High School is the recipient of this year’s $500 award. Diandra will be taking a gap year before attending Brown University where she will major in international and public affairs.

The Dorothy Fogle Memorial Scholarship was established in 1999. Current P.E.O. member, Jane Fogle, established this scholarship to honor the memory of her mother, Dorothy Fogle. Dorothy was a very active long time member of P.E.O. Hailey Abler, a senior at Pierce High School was awarded this $500 scholarship. Hailey will be attending UNL in the fall.
