Ballots coming in for special school election

LAUREL — Even though the deadline isn’t until July 13, Cedar County Clerk Dave Dowling said 37 percent of the Cedar County ballots mailed out to Laurel-Concord-Coleridge School District voters have already been returned.

The District is asking local patrons to support a proposed $18.5 million bond for a school building addition, and facility upgrades. A Sample Election Ballot can be found inside this week’s Advocate.

The Cedar County Clerk’s office mailed out 1,841 ballots June 21 to all Cedar, Dixon and Wayne county registered voters in the District.

All ballots must be completed and returned to the appropriate County Clerk’s office either by mail or in person by 5 p.m. July 13.

Dowling said he is working with the Cedar County Sheriff’s Department to make sure the Dixon County ballots are promptly returned to Cedar County. A Cedar County deputy will pick up any ballots returned to the Dixon County Courthouse in Ponca and return them to Hartington to be counted, shortly after the election ends at 5 p.m. July 13, Dowling said. A total of 311 ballots were mailed out to Dixon County residents.
