Advisor, students and parents are all on the same page with FFA

— Diana Badley Laurel Advocate

LAUREL — The creed says it all.

“I believe in the future of agriculture, with a faith born not of words but of deeds – achievements won by the present and past generations of agriculturists; in the promise of better days through better ways, even as the better things we now enjoy have come to us from the struggles of former years.”

These words make up the opening paragraph of the FFA Creed by E.M. Tiffany.

Tiffany penned the creed the summer of 1928 while he was the chief teacher in the Department of Agricultural Education at the University of Wisconsin.

The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge FFA program is taking steps to continue to live out the words of the creed.

Recently, they held a kick-off meeting that was open to students, parents, and community members.

Tejlor Strope, the new Agricultural Education teacher and FFA Advisor, has high hopes for the program this year and the years to come.

“Laurel-Concord-Coleridge is a community which supports agriculture and the Ag Ed and FFA program,” she said.

The FFA Kick-Off Meeting brings together the students, parents, and community who have a common goal: to make the program great.

“I want students to know how many people are there to support them and help them succeed,” she said. “I also want community members, parents and alumni to see what great things we have planned for the year and the bright future of the program.”

Strope comes to LCC fresh from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Although a first year teacher, she is not new to the world of ag or FFA.

She interned for the Nebraska Department of Education-Ag Ed and the Nebraska FFA Association and was involved in the FFA at the local and state levels.

“In the short time I have been here, I can see the passion students have for success and I am sure we can get there,” she said. “Community support plays a large role in the success of an FFA Chapter. Involving the community can only make the chapter better by helping prepare for contests, allowing students real-life experiences at businesses and farms, and financially keeping the chapter going.”

This year’s officer team is made up of President, Katelyn Pehrson; Vice President, Brianna Campbell; Secretary, Maddy Graham; Treasurer, Caleb Lipp; Reporter, Sarah Karnes; Sentinel, Samantha Pehrson.

The local FFA chapter is really taking FFA and the FFA Creed to heart.

The closing paragraph of the FFA Creed states: I believe that American agriculture can and will hold true to the best traditions of our national life and that I can exert an influence in my home and community which will stand solid for my part in that inspiring task.

The LCC Chapter will use these words to lead them to the next level of success.
