Upcoming School Events

Contradicting from the title, let me begin this article with news from the past. Congratulations to all of the students who participated in winter activities this year. Great job of representing the Osmond Community School.

For some, it was a long time coming as COVID-19 forced an abrupt end to many of the winter activities last year. Which brings me to the point I plan to focus on. All NSAA spring activities and school events were canceled because of COVID-19 in the spring of 2020. This year, we have high hopes that all of these activities and events will be completed as scheduled in 2021.

The awards convocation is scheduled for April 15 and will be open to parents and patrons. The academic portion will begin in the gym at 1:30 p.m., junior high awards at 3 p.m., and the high school activities at 6:30 p.m. This day is a celebration of our students’ successes in academics, athletics, and academics for the 2020-21 school year.

Prom and post prom are planned for April 17, beginning with the meal at 6 p.m., the grand march, and lastly the dance. Similar to last July, patrons allowed in the city auditorium for the grand march will be limited to the immediate families of the participants to allow for social distancing.

We are certainly hoping for favorable weather so the march can begin at the city library once again. Post prom will follow at the school and Main Street Alley. A big thank you to everyone who is planning a fun and safe evening for the students and their guests.

The graduating class of 2021 will be dismissed from school on May 4 with the commencement ceremony on May 8 at 2 p.m. The plan at this time is for the ceremony to be open for all family and patrons in the school gym as long as the COVID-19 numbers continue to decline. Keep working hard, Class of 2021. It is almost time for you to become alumni!

Of course, there are other activities that were stolen from us last year as well. Kindergarten Round-up will be held on April 8 at 7 p.m. and the honors breakfast for the seniors who made the third quarter honor roll is scheduled for April 13 at 7:30 a.m. The spring concerts will be held separately this year to increase social distancing. The 7-12 concert will be held on May 3 with the K-6 concert held on May 11.

The District Music Contest is scheduled for April 23 at Hartington-Newcastle High School. Lastly, we cannot forget about all the track and golf meets in the spring. Please check the school calendars for dates and times.

There is a multitude of student activities that take place in the spring. Please mark your calendars and take time out of your own busy schedule to support these students.

Just don’t forget your favorite mask to help protect the students and their privilege of participating in school activities. Thank you for your support and Go Tigers!
