106 Kix Hosts High School Headlines Tour in Osmond

OSMOND — Radio station 106 Kix hosted its most recent stop of their High School Headlines Tour at Osmond Community Schools on Wednesday, Feb. 5. Osmond High School students participate in the 106 Kix High School Headlines program which features a presentation each week.

Abe Schoenherr, creator of the program, visits each school one time each year to record interviews with students to broadcast on the radio. This year he came at 11 a.m. and spoke to a variety of juniors representing athletics and activities offered by the school.

The first interview was Jozie Kumm, who spoke about band and how upcoming Class D All-State is just around the corner (March 28).

Blake Bahr, Brenden Gillespie and Connor Gutz spoke about FFA and football. Bahr discussed District Livestock Judging results and Gutz advertised Career Development Events, which allow FFA members passageway to State.

Gillespie, a member of the 2019 football team, recapped the football season. Lexi Beacom and Octavio Palacios represented the wrestling team. While Beacom doesn’t participate in wrestling, she is a studentmanager, and she talked about her responsibilities for filming matches. Palacios, a foreign exchange student from Spain who had never wrestled before, gave his perspective on learning something new.

Sam DeLaCruz and Hayle Krienert gave their take on girls’basketball, while Zach Huwaldt, Graysen Schultze and Brady Stech talked about the boys’ basketball season.

Allie Aschoff and Aleynah Gray, both members of choir, talked about their recent and upcoming contests. They both discussed the upcoming District Music Contest, which will be held April 24 in Laurel.

Austin Vinson and Connor von Rentzell spent time talking about organizations. Vinson explained what FCCLA is while von Rentzell described FBLA.

Overall, the students did a nice job and got some great practice with public speaking.
