Lady Cards claim tourney title

RANDOLPH - The Lady Cardinals dominated in the Randolph Holiday Tournament to end 2018.

The Randolph girls’ basketball team defeated Winside 58-3 in the first round and topped Plainview 56-12 to take the title of the hometown tourney.

Sophomore Jaiden Taylor was the defensive aggressor for the Lady Cards’ swiping 10 steals against Winside and nine against Plainview.

Taylor also led her team with 12 points against Winside for a double-double.

Randolph allowed Winside to score three points in the first quarter before holding the Lady Wildcats scoreless for the final three quarters.

Randolph continued the defensive dominance against Plainview, holding the Lady Pirates scoreless in the first quarter before allowing six, four, and two points in each of the quarters to finish the game.

Meanwhile, the Randolph offense was hitting on all cylinders, with 11 players scoring a field goal against Winside and 10 against Plainview.

The two wins snapped a three game losing streak against Ewing, Homer and Wynot, and sent Randolph into 2019 with a 5-5 record.
