Cardinals come up short in shoot-out here
RANDOLPH — The first District football game of the season was a back-and-forth affair.
The Cards were able to put together some solid drives to score against Hartington-Newcastle but they weren’t able to keep the Wildcats from making big plays.
The Cardinals took the early lead Thursday night when they got on the board against Hartington-Newcastle with a 9-yard Carter Schnoor to Justin Haselhorst TD strike with 6:47 left in the first quarter. The extra point attempt failed, though, and Randolph led 6-0.
The visiting Wildcats found paydirt three minutes later when Carson Sudbeck finished off a drive with a 2-yard plunge. Shaye Morten then hit Kobe Heitman to break the 6-6 deadlock and give HNS the lead.
