Boys are runners-up; girls are third at Lewis & Clark meet
BLOOMFIELD — The Lewis & Clark-Bloomfield invitational cross country meets were moved up to Wednesday, Oct. 9, because of the threat of cold, wet, windy weather forecast for Friday. The Tigers had already missed out on the Stanton invite which was canceled as the result of wet conditions at the Stanton golf course the week before.
The Lewis & Clark and Bloomfield meets are run on the Rolling Hills Golf Course. At the conclusion of the race, the meets are scored separately as runners from the Bloomfield meet who are not in the Lewis & Clark conference are removed from the score.
Lewis & Clark Conference Meet
Hartington freshman Carson Noecker easily won the race in 16:53. Hartington’s Braden Kathol edged Osmond’s Mason Bykerk at the line as Kathol’s time was 18:10 and Bykerk was 18:13. Johnson Chishiba was fifth at 18:31 and Grayson Schultze, sixth in a time of 18:40. Ryan Schmit ran a very good race, finishing in 11th place in 19:16. Octavio Palacios was 23rd (20:12) and Aaron Chishiba, 25th (20:27).
So for scoring purposes, after removing runners not on full teams, Osmond scored 3, 4, 5 and 9 for 21 points, while Hartington scored 1, 2, 6, and 11for 20 points, edging the Tigers for the top spot.
Other Tigers’ results were Robert Aschoff, 30th (21:09); Zach Alderson, 32nd (21:28); Kaden Polt 33rd (21:29); Justus Maertins, 34th (21:30); Bodie True, 40th (22:32); Keaton Timmerman, 41st (22:34); Karter Johnson, 43rd (22:37); Hunter Beacom, 44th (22:38); Hudson Schultze, 55th (24:21), and Connor von Rentzell, 60th (25:49).
The girls finished in third place behind champion Bloomfield-Wausa and runner-up Hartington-Newcastle. The girls ran tough with Riley Wagner placing 14th (24:33); Lexi Beacom, 15th (27:28); Hayle Krienert, 16th (27:35), and Jozie Kumm, 21st (29:57).
In the junior high division of the Bloomfield meet, Erica Heiman placed fifth in 11:56 for the 2,500 meter course. Caydence Krienert was seventh (12:03); Juliana Kumm, eighth (12:14), and Brianna Kumm, ninth (12:15). All four girls received medals.
James Doyle received a sixth-place medal, finishing in a time of 10:22. Andrew Bucklew was 16th in a time of 11:48.
“I thought we ran very well since we hadn’t raced in quite a while,” Coach Joe Ortmeier noted. “I really thought the boys had beaten Hartington since our kids came in positioned well with the Wildcats.”
