Osmond students attend Lewis & Clark conference honor band clinic

ALLEN — This year’s Lewis and Clark Conference Honor Band Clinic on Saturday, Jan. 21 was held at Allen Consolidated Schools because of construction at Wayne State College.

The day began before daybreak for the four Osmond musicians — Landon Oltjenbruns, Jack Berg, Matthew Alderson, and Caleb Miller — who traveled to the event.

Once they arrived, they were given audition cuts from their music for the day to audition on for the conference directors assigned to their instrument. The results from these auditions determined the chair placement for each ensemble.

Of the four Osmond band members, three received a first chair medal placement. They are Jack Berg on trombone, Matthew Alderson on tenor saxophone, and Caleb Miller on baritone saxophone.

Two ensembles — a ninth-10th grade band and an 11th-12th grade band — put together a fantastic performance that afternoon at 4:30 p.m. in the Allen gym, said Osmond band director Christalin Ginn.

The clinicians this year were Dr. David Bohnert from Wayne State College and Dr. Andrew Feyes from Doane University.

The 9/10 band performed three selections: “Avenger” by Rob Grice, “For Our Heroes” by Alan Lee Silva, and “His Honor” by Henry Filmore.

The 11/12 band performed four selections: “Fanfare For The Third Planet” by Richard L. Saucedo, “Nightsong” by Richard L. Saucedo, “Brighton Camp” by Randall D. Standridge, and “Byzantine Dances” by Carol Brittin Chambers.

Mrs. Ginn commented, “I am be- yond thankful and proud of these fine gentlemen for spending their Saturday sharing their musical talents and representing our school so positively. It was a wonderful concert that inspired me as their teacher. It is always a great day when I can see my students collaborating and excelling in music.”
