Wrestlers compete at Creighton invitational

CREIGHTON — The Osmond wrestlers competed at the Creighton invite on Saturday, Dec. 3. The Ti- gers scored 60.5 points and finished in sixth place out of the seven teams competing.

Norfolk Reserves was the team champion, followed by Quad County Northeast. The Tigers had two individual champions with Robert Aschoff winning the 132-lb. bracket and Jaxon Vinson winning the 145-lb. bracket. Carson Bolz finished in third place at 220 lbs.

“This was a good tournament to start off the season,” commented Coach Larry McKenna. “It was smaller this year than in past years, but all our wrestlers still got at least four matches. We only had three wrestlers compete, but all three medaled, with Robert and Jaxon finishing first in their brackets.

“This was a good tournament for Robert. We bumped him up a weight bracket in order to get more matches and he still wrestled well, winning all four of his matches with three pins and a technical fall. Even though he won all his matches by pin or technical fall, he still had a couple of tough matches that he had to wrestle hard to win.”

“Jaxon Vinson also had a good tournament,” McKenna continued, "winning all five of his matches with four pins and a decision. Jaxon wrestled especially well in his fourth match. With the scored tied late in the match, Jaxon was able to score an escape and then secured the match with a late takedown and ride out to earn the victory.

“Carson Bolz also wrestled well for the first tournament, finishing with a record of 2-2 to earn third place,” McKenna concluded.
