Osmond High School Tigers prepare for 2023 track season

OSMOND — The Osmond track and field teams have been preparing for the 2023 season for the past two weeks in the school hallways and gymnasium. The teams will be led by 20 letter winners, including four state medal winners.

Senior Cali Gutz finished third in the 800 meters last spring. The boys' 1,600-relay team collected a seventh-place medal, returning team members Gavin Geneski and Alex Vinson but graduated Bodie True and Ryan Schmit.

Along with the relay team, letter winners are seniors Karter Johnson, a gold medal state medalist in the 3,200-relay from 2021 and qualifier last spring, along with Hudson Schultze in the 3,200-relay; Robert Aschoff and Zach Reikofski round out the seniors. Junior letter winners were Matthew Alderson, Hunter Buchanan, James Doyle, Caleb Miller and Dominic True. Sophomore letter winners were Carson Bolz, Noah Geneski and Jaxon Vinson.

Additional girls' letter winners include senior Reese Johns, juniors Erica Heiman and Anabelle Vinson, as well as sophomores Keli Aschoff and Sophie Gansebom. Other girls' team members include junior Anna Kahny and Juliana Kumm, and sophomores Keely Gubbels, Brianna Kumm, Erin Wagner and Jamie Gubbels. New to the team are freshmen Ava Reikofski, Erin Aschoff, Abby Brown, Piper Hoffman, Carriana Kumm, and Kaleigh Miller.

Other boys' team members are seniors Trevin Larson and Darren Kelly, sophomore Cody Gansebom, and freshman Jack Berg. "We are hoping for better weather as the meet season approaches," noted Coach Joe Ortmeier. "We have 36 athletes working hard for meets in the following weeks. The teams have very good veteran leadership and we expect to do well this season." Coach Ortmeier is again assisted by Jessica Evans and Brian Guenther.
