Shirley Hoffart

PLAINVIEW — A private funeral service for Shirley Barbara Hoffart, age 84, of Plainview was held at Saint Paul’s Catholic Church in Plainview on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2020. Father Jeremy Hans officiated the service.

She passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2020, at the Plainview Hospital.

Shirley was born to Harold and Barbara Davids on Oct. 5, 1936, on a farm near Creighton. At the age of 10, Shirley and her family moved to their new homestead northwest of Osmond. After graduating from Osmond High School in 1954, she moved to Norfolk and worked as a waitress at Hesteds Store, before moving to Plainview to live with family and nanny. There she met the love of her life, Gerald Hoffart, at the Plainview Roller Rink. They were united in marriage at the Catholic Church in Neligh on March 16, 1957. After residing there for a short time, they made their home in Plainview, where they raised their four children. Jerry and Shirley opened Hoffart Repair in 1983, where Shirley was the keeper of all things. In 1998, they purchased an acreage between Plainview and Osmond, where she and Jerry enjoyed gardening, flowers, birds and spending time with their family. The two of them also enjoyed motorcycling through the United States on their GoldWing for many, many years. They met many friends who became family while part of a motorcycle club called the “Nite-Out Riders,” and lifelong camping extended family members. Shirley made her love for her entire family known through many handwritten birthday and anniversary cards, as well as hosting family holiday gatherings.

Mourning her loss is her husband of 63 years, Jerry; children: Mark (Melissa) Hoffart of Plainview, Julie (Tom) Bruckner of Osmond, Dan (Janel) Hoffart of Colorado; son-in-law Ronnie Christiansen of Plainview; a brother, Don (Judy) Davids of Plainview; a sister, Sandi (Gary) Springer of Osmond; sister-in-law, Joyce Hoffart of Minnesota; brother-in-law, Dean (Doris) Hoffart of Norfolk; 12 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren, with one on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Barbara (Ernst) Davids; her in-laws, William and Madge (Taylor) Hoffart; her daughter, Lisa Christiansen; brother-in-law, Keith Hoffart; brother-in-law and wife, Billy and Donna Hoffart; and a nephew, Michael Davids.

Condolences may be sent to the family at Jerry Hoffart, 109 S. Main St., Plainview, NE 68769.
